First Grade

In 1st grade, students build strong reading, writing, and math skills through engaging, hands-on learning. They practice reading with confidence, writing complete sentences, solving math problems, exploring science and social studies, and developing teamwork, responsibility, and critical thinking skills in a supportive classroom environment.

First-grade students learn through hands-on activities, small-group instruction, independent practice, educational games, and classroom discussions. Teachers use stories, interactive lessons, and real-world examples to help students build reading, writing, math, science, and social studies skills while encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

First-grade students will build confidence, independence, and important skills through daily learning activities. Students will practice classroom routines, develop responsibility, work with classmates, and continue growing academically and socially in a supportive learning environment.

• Set a Routine: Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine to ensure your child is well-rested and ready for school each day. This is one of the most important gifts you can give your child: helping them learn the importance of a routine.
• Plan Around School Time: While vacations and appointments are sometimes necessary, try to schedule them during school breaks or after school hours to minimize disruptions.
• Communicate with Us: If your child is going to be absent due to illness or other reasons, please inform the school as soon as possible. We are here to support you and can help your child catch up on missed work.
• Encourage a Positive Attitude Toward School: Talk to your child about the importance of attending school and the exciting things they will learn each day. A positive attitude can make a world of difference!
• Please don’t ignore the 90% rule. All students must be in school 90% of the school year. This rule was established to set your child up for success. Students who are not present at school for 90% or more of the school year are at risk of academic struggles as well as social difficulties.Together, we can ensure that your child has the best possible foundation for success.
